We customized a 1-ton foldable portable gantry crane for a customer in the United Arab Emirates, mainly used for material handling in a private garden. Considering the challenging site conditions—soft soil prone to sinking and severe corrosion from coastal salt spray—we implemented three key engineering upgrades: large-size widened rubber wheels, full powder-coated steel structure and hoist body, and galvanized lifting chain. The equipment has passed full pre-shipment assembly testing and is ready for packing and dispatch.

The customer in the UAE required a simple but practical solution: a 1t ポータブルガントリークレーン with a 2m span and 3m lifting height, intended for daily material handling in a private garden.
From a technical perspective, this is a standard low-capacity portable gantry crane that we have produced many times. However, one key detail changed the entire engineering approach: The equipment will be used on soft soil in a garden, where standard wheels are prone to sinking, making normal movement and operation difficult.
Based on this condition, we recommended upgrading from standard wheels to large-size widened rubber wheels to improve ground adaptability. After evaluating the site conditions, the customer approved the solution.
Later during production, the customer further informed us that the equipment would ultimately be used near a beach area. Long-term exposure to sea wind, humid air, and salt-laden environments would significantly accelerate corrosion. Therefore, the standard anti-corrosion configuration was no longer sufficient, and the overall corrosion protection system needed to be upgraded accordingly.
To ensure stable long-term operation under soft soil and coastal conditions, we optimized the equipment without changing the core structure or significantly increasing cost, focusing on targeted improvements in mobility and corrosion resistance.
The original standard wheels have limited ground contact area, resulting in higher ground pressure. On soft soil, this can easily cause sinking during movement, affecting operational efficiency.
To solve this issue, we upgraded the crane to large-size widened rubber wheels. By increasing the contact area and reducing ground pressure, the crane can move smoothly on soft surfaces without sinking.
After the upgrade, the equipment can be operated on grassland and soft soil without additional ground reinforcement such as steel plates or concrete flooring, ensuring stable mobility under both unloaded and rated load conditions.

The main challenge in coastal applications is salt spray corrosion. Moist, salt-rich air rapidly accelerates metal degradation. To address this, we upgraded three key components: steel structure, hoist body, and lifting chain.

During the technical discussions, the customer also inquired about a full stainless steel version.
Stainless steel does offer better corrosion resistance, but for this type of portable gantry crane that requires frequent movement and foldable storage, it would significantly increase both the weight and the cost.

An approximate 50% weight increase would reduce portability and make manual handling more difficult, while also significantly increasing manufacturing cost.
After evaluating corrosion resistance, weight, and budget, the customer ultimately selected the powder-coated structure with galvanized chain solution, achieving a balanced performance between durability and portability.
