Race Against Time: Delivering 4 Set Overhead Cranes Before the Spring Festival

In early 2026, the construction of a new facility for a metal processing enterprise in Kazakhstan reached the equipment installation phase. Each of the four main workshops required a 10-ton premium overhead crane. Featuring a span of 18.92 meters and a lifting height of 7.68 meters, to handle daily steel lifting and the loading and unloading of finished products. The order was urgent, and the delivery deadline coincided with the Chinese New Year holiday. We faced a triple challenge: tight schedules, component shortages, and a lack of available electrical parts. Nevertheless, we maintained production throughout the holiday, delivering all four cranes to the client’s workshops on schedule and ensuring not a single day of delay in the installation timeline.

Why Was This Order So Urgent?

For the new factory of this metal processing enterprise in Kazakhstan, a simultaneous construction plan involving four workshops was adopted, with completion deadlines for key project milestones clearly locked into the contract. Premium overhead cranes play a pivotal role in the critical path of such factory construction projects. Once the crane rails are laid and calibrated, the premium overhead cranes must be hoisted into position immediately. This is because the subsequent delivery and installation of all heavy production line equipment, ranging from machinery units and molds to modular sections of automated production lines. Relies entirely on these workshop premium overhead cranes for lifting. Without the cranes in place, heavy equipment cannot be unloaded or vertically hoisted to installation sites, causing the entire workshop’s equipment installation process to grind to a halt.

The timing presented an even greater challenge. When the client officially placed the order in January 2026, the Chinese New Year holiday was fast approaching. During the period spanning roughly two weeks before and two weeks after the holiday, upstream suppliers shut down, long-distance domestic transport capacity contracted sharply, and factories halted operations. The entire supply chain effectively entered a state of total or partial standstill. 

Yet, the client chose to award us the order on the eve of the holiday for one key reason: we do not stop production during the Chinese New Year. DAFANGCRANE’s production base is running critical processes around the holidays, with core teams on duty and production lines running. The client understood this well. Only a supplier that can maintain production capacity during the Chinese New Year could have secured this order.

Overcoming Spring Festival Supply Chain Strain for Urgent Overhead Crane Production

Once the order was confirmed, three overlapping practical challenges arose simultaneously.

The first hurdle: widespread shortages of core components as upstream suppliers collectively halted operations.

Take the hoisting motor—the “heart” of the premium overhead crane, as an example. During the Spring Festival holiday, upstream manufacturers of metallurgical crane motors suspended production as is customary, and the supply of matching gearboxes, brakes, and electrical control components also dried up. 

However, DAFANGCRANE had already stockpiled key materials in anticipation of urgent orders. The hoisting motors, hardened-gear reducers, and electromagnetic brakes for the 4 premium overhead cranes. Along with electrical components such as PLCs, variable frequency drives (VFDs), contactors, and relays, all had been secured and separately inventoried in advance. Consequently, production lines continued to run throughout the holiday without any interruption in material supply.

The Second Hurdle: Rigid Delivery Deadlines with No Margin for Error

The client’s factory construction schedule was strictly governed by contractual terms, leaving no room for flexible adjustments. The installation of the premium overhead cranes was a prerequisite for subsequent equipment setup. Their delivery time directly determined the start dates for all following phases. A single day’s delay would push back the entire project timeline by a day. After evaluating the supplier landscape and the project schedule, the client entrusted us with the full responsibility of ensuring the deadline was met. The sole criterion for the project’s success was whether we could complete the production and shipment of the four cranes during the Spring Festival holiday.

To address the three challenges mentioned above, our response strategy adheres to a core principle: all actions are centered on ensuring no production stoppages, no material shortages, and no delivery delays:

  • Regarding material assurance, the warehousing team completed an inventory count on the very day the order was confirmed, identifying and securing all necessary materials for the four premium overhead cranes. Including structural steel, electrical components, and mechanical accessories. And generating a prioritized material requisition list. During the Spring Festival holiday, inventory served as the lifeline of production. The premium overhead crane speed at which materials were secured directly determined the feasibility of the production schedule. For critical components unavailable in the open market, the procurement team simultaneously activated a network of backup suppliers. Resources were maintained for routine operations that served as alternative supply channels when mainstream sources were unavailable.
  • Regarding production organization, the production department completely restructured the manufacturing workflow for the four units. The standard production rhythm followed a sequential model—material cutting → structural welding → mechanical assembly → electrical assembly → system commissioning → factory inspection—with processes proceeding one after another. This pace was wholly inadequate for meeting the deadline during the Spring Festival rush. The revised plan adopted a parallel, overlapping workflow: structural welding and electrical cabinet pre-assembly began simultaneously, while mechanical assembly and electrical wiring proceeded in tandem. The four units were broken down into distinct process modules; work on any module commenced as soon as personnel were in place, thereby eliminating idle time and downtime. The electrical assembly team maintained continuous operations during the critical rush period, systematically advancing through every stage from wiring and cable routing to power-on pre-commissioning.
  • Regarding quality inspection, despite the tight schedule, not a single factory test item was omitted for any of the cranes: no-load trials, rated load tests, hoisting mechanism performance verification, stability tests for trolley and bridge travel, limit protection function checks, and braking system reliability tests. All were executed and documented item by item. This represented a non-negotiable quality baseline.

Agile Logo Painting Solution for Rapid Overhead Crane Delivery

The delivery deadline was incredibly tight this time. There simply wasn’t enough time to spray the company logo on the equipment before it left the factory. Instead of hiding the issue, we were upfront with the client and proposed applying the logo once the facility construction was fully complete. This approach ensured the installation schedule remained on track without compromising the final product’s integrity. The client was understanding and agreed that the plan made sense: get the equipment up and running first, and handle the cosmetic finishing touches once the entire plant was finished. That’s the nature of overseas projects. Candid communication when facing problems is far more important than trying to bluff your way through.

Looking back, that minor hiccup with the logo actually served as a signal. For those few days, no one was concerned with superficial appearances; every ounce of energy was poured into getting the equipment ready on time. The electrical workshop, warehousing, assembly, and quality control teams were all perfectly synchronized. Management streamlined processes and reporting, focusing on a single objective: producing the four cranes. There was no bickering and no waiting around for instructions; everyone knew that the clock was ticking for the four workshops in Kazakhstan.

China Kazakhstan Cross Border Premium Overhead Crane Delivery Through Chinese New Year

Completing the factory inspection marked only the halfway point of the project; the remaining half involved cross-border transportation. During the Spring Festival, four 10-ton premium overhead cranes were transported from the manufacturing base in Henan to the client’s factory in Kazakhstan. The route began in Henan, crossed the border at Khorgos (Xinjiang) into Kazakhstan, and covered a total road transport distance of over 4,000 kilometers.

The DAFANGCRANE logistics team secured available transport capacity bound for Central Asia prior to the Spring Festival holiday, immediately upon order confirmation. Packing plans were organized to correspond with the client’s workshop designations: the main steel structure, electrical control cabinets, cabling, and accessories for each crane were consolidated into a single, complete transport unit. Upon arrival, each shipment corresponded to a specific workshop, eliminating the need for the client to perform secondary sorting or redistribution between workshops.

To withstand Kazakhstan’s cold winter climate, all packaging met rigorous cold, and moisture-proofing standards. Documentation required for customs clearance, including certificates of origin, commodity inspection reports, and packing lists, was prepared and verified before the equipment left the factory, ensuring no delays at the border due to paperwork issues.

The results did not disappoint. Four 10-ton premium overhead cranes were completed and shipped to Kazakhstan on schedule. Upon the equipment’s arrival at the site, our technical support team provided remote assistance to the client’s installation team, guiding them through positioning, lifting, and commissioning.

Installation work proceeded simultaneously across four workshop bays. The time elapsed from the initial unloading of equipment to the completion of all commissioning tests was shorter than the client’s original estimate. The electrical system wiring passed inspection on the first attempt, the crane and trolley ran smoothly along their tracks, and all braking test data for the hoisting mechanisms met design standards.

During the acceptance phase, the client’s project manager, Nursultan, commented: “Our biggest concern was that the cranes might become a bottleneck for the entire installation schedule. However, not only did you deliver on time, but the post-delivery commissioning also progressed faster than we anticipated.
